ANCIENT AND MODERN JERUSALEM

About the Tour

Jerusalem is versatile and has many faces. This tour combines the ancient and the modern, the historical and the contemporary, and allows the young and the young-at-heart to enjoy everything Jerusalem has to offer: scenic views, a tour of the Old City, fine authentic food, 19th and 20th century history anecdotes, a fascinating and enjoyable visit to the Mahane Yehuda market and many more.

We will begin our day with an extraordinary view of Jerusalem from the Mount Scopus viewpoint. From there, we will proceed to the Mamilla neighborhood and walk along its famous and beautiful avenue. After visiting this prestigious street, we will enter the Old City through the Jaffa Gate, walking between the walls. We will hear beautiful stories about the construction of the walls and various gates, and about the Crusaders, Sheikhs and important Jews involved.

From here we will proceed to the Christian Quarter and visit the Church of the Holy Sepulcher. Next, we will continue to the Western Wall and the beautiful and restored Jewish Quarter. After lunch at one of the authentic and local hidden hummus restaurants, we will return to our vehicle and head to the new town. We will visit the 2nd Temple Model at the Israel Museum and the adjacent Shrine of the Book Complex. From here we will continue to the lovely and familiar Mahane Yehuda market to grab a cold beer and enjoy local delicacies from all types (meat/dairy/vegan).

For those who have already been to Jerusalem before and want to discover new places, I offer a tour to the "first station" complex. This includes the German Colony in Jerusalem and the story of the explosion at the King David Hotel. I can take you to the Russian Compound, where we will visit the charming Holy Trinity Church, and the Sergei Yard. In downtown Jerusalem, we will talk about the British Mandate period in the city, including a visit to the Museum of the Underground Prisoners.

Another options I offer for the "advanced" tourists in Jerusalem are a visit to the Deer Valley, Kibbutz Ramat Rachel, a fascinating visit to Mount Herzl and heroic stories of the soldiers buried there, and ofcourse a tour of the "Yad VaShem" institution commemorating the victims of the Holocaust of European Jews.
